UK Science Enabled from Small Body Sample Return Missions

Returned samples from asteroids offer an opportunity to measure pristine samples which can tell us more about the evolution of our Solar System. There have been several sample return missions to asteroids, including Hayabusa (which visited Itokawa), Hayabusa2 (Ryugu) and OSIRIS-REx (Bennu). There are also future sample missions to small bodies, including MMX, which will visit and return samples from the Martian moon Phobos, which may be the result of a large collision on Mars or a captured asteroid. The UK planetary science community in particular has extensive expertise in asteroid and small body research, with members having lead roles in science and instrumentation teams for most asteroid sample return missions. The community works on all aspects of these missions, from instrument operation to analysis once the samples have been returned. This meeting will focus on the topic of sample return missions, and in particular to highlight the UK contribution.

We welcome abstracts to present short talks at this meeting. Abstracts should be no longer than 200 words, and should be submitted using the this google form. Please submit your abstract by November 14th, and we will inform participants of the meeting schedule by November 28th.
